How is it taught?
"What I'm after isn't flexible bodies, but flexible brains."         - Moshe Feldenkrais
There are two aspects of the Feldenkrais Method® - one engages participants to learn in a group setting, called Awareness Through Movement®, and the other is an individual approach for people who have specific challenges, such as chronic pain, functional limitations or the need for recovery from accident or injury called Functional Integration®.
. . . lessons are experienced in a group setting while lying on a mat, in sitting or standing. You are verbally guided through exploratory movement sequences that, like puzzles, stimulate the brain to find the easiest, most efficient way of achieving the intended action. You are guided to move slowly and gently within your comfort zone while observing the quality of how you move. As you move with a heightened sensitivity, patterns of tension and holding may become apparent.  Understanding how you limit yourself and releasing unneeded tension opens the way to discovering new options in how you move and function in your life. The more you experience, the greater benefit.
Awareness Through Movement®
Functional Integration®
. . . sessions are individually customized to your specific needs. They usually take place lying on a wide, comfortable table while the practitioner uses a gentle, non-invasive quality of touch to guide and support you in discovering your particular movement patterns. Once these patterns are recognized, your system is encouraged to learn and reorganize for more optimal ways of moving and being. The experience of comfort, pleasure and ease is conveyed. Most people feel an enhanced sense of well-being after a session.  The sessions are available by appointment only.
